Groundbreaking Senen Market Block VI, Anies Expects it to Be New Trade Center Icon in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan attended the groundbreaking event at Senen Market Block VI, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/10).

This construction is expected to bring new icon of trade center in capital city, apart from Tanah Abang Market.
According to him, this groundbreaking has been planned by Jakarta Government and can only be realize
d now which targeted to finish in second quarter of 2022. This is a transit-oriented development concept, and in Jakarta, we are shifting the development pattern which was originally only based on car-oriented development," he conveyed as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.
His reason explained it due to fact that car-oriented development system only relies on private vehicles as medium for mobility. While transit-oriented development can take advantage of public transportation that allow anyone to move around using public facilities, starting from sidewalks, bus stops, stations, and public transportation itself.
He also assessed that Senen Market Block VI location has a story in the past which recorded in the history. Through development plan, his side expected this building will have many functions for community activities, even as a place that can be comparable to Tanah Abang Market.
"Senen Market is a place that has a long history. This place was built in 1735 and it has experienced a very long period until today. From the beginning, its activities were started from Monday, thus it was called Pasar Senen, even there were daily market in Jakarta. Therefore, I hope this location will be a multi-functional place and one of trade center icons in Jakarta," he asserted.
Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director, Arief Nasrudin added, Senen Market Block VI construction must be carried out continuously, following Governor Anies' message that he wanted it to be done on time, with good quality, and efficient in using budget. He hoped Block VI can boost people's economy after being hit by COVID-19 pandemic.
He also considered that the location is very strategic because it is surrounded by many public activities, such as bus terminals, KRL stations, and Transjakarta bus stops. Thus he hoped the economy flow to develop rapidly in this region, since the mobility of community activities is also high.
"We will build market with area around 14,860 square meters thus it can accommodate 2,511 units of business premises. Traders in here are also very cooperative with us to realize the development, and we are very happy with it. We hope the development process will run smoothly thus it can be completed on target in quarter of 2022," he stated.
For information, Senen Market Block VI building is planned to be built with mixed use development consisting of 40 floors, where 5 floors will be used for market, 3 floors for parking area, and 32 floors for housing, with an overall building area of 88,065.35 square meters. On market floor, it will be used as business place for existing and new traders. For housing, his side will build 574 units. However, in early stage of development, it will focus on building market and parking areas as high as 8 floors thus traders can use it immediately for trading.
The groundbreaking construction process is started using Hydraulic Static Pile Driver (HSPD Hydraulic Jack) to reduce the environmental pollution, air pollution, and disturbance to the surrounding environment.
Here are facilities which provided in new Senen Market Block VI building:
1. Spacious and adequate parking spaces for cars, motorbikes and bicycles;
2. Escalators and lifts in every corner of the building;
3. Worship facilities;
4. Meeting and training rooms for traders;
5. Lactation room;
6. Early Childhood Education (PAUD);
7. Polyclinic; and
8. 24-hour CCTV surveillance.
The groundbreaking activity was also attended by Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria; Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director, Arief Nasrudin; Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission C Chairman, Muhamad bin Salim Alatas; Assistant for Economy and Finance at Jakarta Regional Secretary, Sri Haryati; Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma and his subordinates; as well as representative of Senen Market Block VI traders, Usdin Nainggolan.
