Market Executives Asked to Detect Formalin-Products Circulation

Many food and beverage products containing hazardous substances, such as formaldehyde, borax, and rhodamine B, are allegedly still widely spread in the market. Hence, Jakartans are urged to be more vigilant and report if found such products to be followed up.

“Please report to us immediately. Also check the products’ distributors, we’ll take action against them. Market executives must be able to detect food and beverage products containing hazardous substances,” stated Director of Products and Hazardous Substances Surveillance for Indonesia Foods and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM), Mustofa, Wednesday (11/12).

Lots of Takjil in Traditional Market Contained Harmful Substances

Meanwhile, PD Pasar Jaya Business and Development Director, Ivo Edwin Aryanto, said that his party will give each market teskit tools to independently check food products in their markets. With those tools, market officials are expected would done checking routinely.

“Although the tools are quite expensive, that’s okay. We already have five pilot markets so far. In the future, we’re preparing six more markets. In total, there would be 11 pilot markets. Hopefully all markets free from food and beverage products containing hazardous substances hazardous substance,” he uttered.

Those five existing pilot markets are Cibubur, Grogol, Tebet Baru, Koja Baru, and Johar Baru. While the other six soon to be pilot markets are Pasar Minggu, Tomang Barat, Senen, Sunter, and Manggis.
