Ahok Initiates Picking Up Trash Movement

Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama is going to initiate the movement of Gerakan Pungut Sampah or picking up trash. This movement will be held once a week on Friday morning by involving civil servants in the environment of Jakarta Provincial Government as well as Jakartans and private parties.

We want to make a picking up trash movement once a week

“We want to make a picking up trash movement once a week. We have a lot of civil servants and also private parties. We want Friday like the old times and morning exercise at the same time,” he stated, Friday (14/11).

Ahok stressed that Jakarta Provincial Government will tighten the monitoring on the cleanliness of city neighborhoods and also move the people to pick up the trash, especially the people who live on riverbanks.

“So, we must be strict from now on, people who are littering must be punished. We’ll also install CCTVs. There at Ciliwung River, people kept littering,” he said.

When this picking up trash movement started, Ahok asks all urban village and sub-district heads to provide disposal sites (TPS), so the trashes collected would not be thrown again to the river. The movement itself will be socialized in form of Governor Instruction to all Jakarta Provincial Government institutions, including city-owned enterprises (BUMD).

“We’ll launch the movement on upcoming November 22-28 at Lapangan Menteng, Central Jakarta,” he told.
