PMKS still Rampant Under Kampung Melayu Flyover

People with social welfare issues (PMKS) seemed to always exist under Kampung Melayu Flyover, Jatinegara, East Jakarta. In the area which located at the east side of Kampung Melayu Terminal, PMKS with carts can be easily found, especially at night.

Responding on this matter, Deputy Head of Jatinegara Sub-District, Manson Sinaga, stated that the control against PMKS who based under Kampung Melayu Flyover is often times held. But when the officers were slack, the PMKS returned to the area because there are many open fences.

“The area under the flyover should have been fenced to prevent the PMKS from entering it. If the fence was let with condition having many holes, the PMKS, carts, and motorcycles will always come inside,” he said, Saturday (11/15).

Under Kampung Melayu Flyover Safeguarded by 40 Personnel

Besides holed fence issue, Sinaga also told that the temporary disposal site (TPS) under the flyover should have been moved. Unfortunately, his party is having difficulty to find the substitute land because the area is a densely populated area.

To resolve PMKS problem, five Satpol PP personnel are deployed to watch over the area under Kampung Melayu Flyover. And soon, a joint operation will be held to control the PMKS there. However, Sinaga refused to reveal when the operation would exactly be held.

About the TPS, Head of East Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Apul Silalahi, explained that TPS relocation is the authority of the urban village and sub-district parties, while his department’s responsibilities are only building TPS and transporting the trashes from all disposal sites. According to him, many people do not want TPS exists in their settlements.

“As long as there is no new TPS, the temporary disposal site remains in that location,” he asserted.
