Automatic Junk Filters on Baru River Damaged

In the midst of increasing rainfall these days, two of four automatic junk filters on Baru River, Kampung Tengah Urban Village, Kramat Jati Sub-District, are currently damaged. If they were not immediately repaired, the river could overflow and trigger flooding.

Two automatic junk filters are damaged since three months ago. Because of that, we had to pick up the trashes manually from the riverbank

“Two automatic junk filters are damaged since three months ago. Because of that, we had to pick up the trashes manually from the riverbank. It’s troubling the officers,” expressed Fauzan (20), one of janitors at Baru River, Sunday (11/16).

According to Fauzan, the automatic junk filters are damaged because the chain that connects the machine with the filter is disconnected. As a result, the trash on the bottom of the river cannot be lifted by the filter. Usually, a filter could lift up eight tons of junk every day. But since two of them damaged, only four tons junk can be lifted.

Responding on this problem, Head of East Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Apul Silalahi, admitted that his party has received report on the damaged junk filters on Baru River.

“True, we have received the report. We also have proposed for the repair of those damaged junk filters to Jakarta Cleanliness Department. We will repair them as soon as possible,” he stated.
