Ahok Suggests 50 Percent Down Payment in Land Acquisition

Jakarta Provincial Government is about to accelerate the process of land acquisition for the construction projects of mass rapid transit (MRT), Ciliwung River waterway, and riverbanks’ inspection roads.

We give down payment 50 percent, thus landowners can get money to look for replacement land elsewhere

“Indeed there are weaknesses all this time. Land acquisition becomes hampered due to waiting for the results of measurement, trace, administration, et cetera. As a result, the landowners never receive any compensation from the government,” said Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ T Purnama, Monday (11/17).

Therefore, Ahok proposed that in land acquisition, the landowners to be paid about 50 percent first while waiting for the measurement, trace, and administration processes.

Ciliwung-KBT Waterway Project Still Constrained by Land Acquisition

“We give down payment 50 percent, thus landowners can get money to look for replacement land elsewhere. Besides, the city administration would bear bigger cost because land price is getting higher if the land acquisition compensation payment postponed,” he uttered.

Moreover, Ahok continued, Jakarta Provincial Government will entrust the compensation payment to district courts for land lots which ownerships are acknowledged by some parties.

“We’ll entrust the compensation money in courts then take the land. And what about the people who ask for compensation at unreasonable price, exceeding official institution’s interpretation? Certainly, we will also entrust the money to the courts,” he stated.

According to Ahok, the governor regulation related to compensation payment to the citizens who have buildings on state land has completed.

“The citizens affected by land acquisition but have lived for decades will also be compensated, I don’t how much. But for those who just owned the buildings, they will not receive compensation, but will be relocated to the flats instead,” he explained.

Together with private party, Ahok told that Jakarta Provincial Government next year will build tens of thousands of flat units in the capital city in order to accommodate the people affected by land acquisition for public interest.

“After the flats are adequate, we will relocate the citizens from riverbanks to the flats in 2016 and 2017,” he asserted.
