Central Jakarta Steps Up Fight against Illegal Levies

The Jakarta Inspectorate is about to form a team under the Central Jakarta administration in order to eradicate pungli (illegal levies), on Tuesday (6/8).

They have to report if any of the members commit illegal levies

Jakarta Inspector, Syaefulloh Hidayat said the team consisted of ranks of regional officials including sub-districts, urban villages and sub-agencies.

According to him, they would make an action plan, ranging from internal socialization to the installation of brochures thus residents would know that there should be no illegal levies.

"They have to report if any of the members commit illegal levies. Sanctions will be imposed according to applicable regulations," he explained.

He revealed that the team in Jakarta would be launched in early July. Currently, his party was intensively holding outreach to urban areas.

Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma asserted that his party was committed to realizing Central Jakarta as an illegal levies-free area.

"We will also hold socialization and build a joint commitment to eradicate illegal levies," he stated.
