Parks Agency is Ready to Face Burial Surges under Covid-19 Protocols

They are at the forefront of handling corpses that must be buried, this is certainly not easy amid the current pandemic situation

The number of Covid-19 cases identified in a single day surpassed Jakarta's total figure in previous days has shown an increase in the number of funerals under the Covid-19 protocol in the last two days, namely, 150 funerals on June 22 to 180 funerals or highest record on June 23.

Forum Pemuda Peduli Jakarta Chairperson, Endriansah said that the case made the performance of the Parks and Urban Forest Agency staff also increase.

900 Grave Plots at TPU Rorotan Have Been Used

"Starting from ambulance operations to officers at the Public Cemetery (TPU) which is a burial place, they have to work extra. We need to appreciate them for being alert so that everything can still run and be handled properly," he expressed, Thursday (6/24).

He explained that all officers in the field who serve the bodies under Covid-19 protocol was not a job without risk. Moreover, they also had families who must be left to carry out this noble work.

"They are at the forefront of handling corpses that must be buried, this is certainly not easy amid the current pandemic situation. Surely it needs extra physical and psychological condition," he stated.

He added that the agency was also moving quickly to add 7,600 new grave plots for bodies exposed to Covid-19 at two TPUs. In detailed, they were 7,200 plots at the Rorotan TPU, North Jakarta and another 400 at the Tegal Alur TPU, West Jakarta.

His party urged all people, especially Jakartans, to be more disciplined in complying with and strengthening health protocols.

"Hopefully they can participate in the vaccination, thus they can reach herd immunity," he hoped.
