Jakarta Government Shares Experiences in Handling COVID-19 Through Webinar

Jakarta Public Policy Center, Jakarta BPSDM held Kamis The Series webinar themed Synergize in Realizing Public Health in Jakarta: Vaccination (COVID-19) Towards Herd Immunity, on Thursday (8/12). Through this webinar, Jakarta Government expected various regions to have positive inputs in order to increase effectiveness in handling COVID-19.

First we need to work quickly. Second, deal with the pandemic based on data and facts

Jakarta Secretariat Acting Assistant (Plt) for Community Welfare, Suharti Sutar mentioned in her remarks that the webinar is a good opportunity to share information, especially about what Jakarta Government is doing and how community feels during COVID-19 pandemic. Considering that Jakarta Government needs to convey its experience in handling the pandemic to other regions.

"Jakarta Provincial Government remains committed to handling COVID-19 properly with main principles, first we need to work quickly. Second, deal with the pandemic based on data and facts. Thus we create website coronajakarta.go.id," she conveyed.

That website provides various data on handling the pandemic in Jakarta as the reason Jakarta Government has taken various policies so far. All are built on data and facts that are constantly being developed, constantly being updated.

"Collaboration is also important. We are well aware that it is impossible for provincial government to handle COVID-19 alone. It will not work if it only relies on financial and human resources from Jakarta Provincial Government," she asserted.

Therefore, all stakeholders in Jakarta are involved in handling COVID-19 pandemic. Especially in carrying out vaccination. According to her, as of August 12, 2021, achievement of vaccination program and mutual cooperation (Gotong Royong) vaccination in Jakarta was almost 9 million, dominated by vaccination program that reached 8.77 million.

"Many people who work in Jakarta are from outside Jakarta, because it is the capital city. So, about 40 percent people who have been vaccinated in Jakarta have ID cards outside Jakarta. We want people who commute to Jakarta to be protected as well. The Health Agency can explain in more detail how vaccination is carried out in Jakarta that it can reach the target," she stated.

She added that collaboration of four pillars in Jakarta was also effective thus target 7.5 million vaccinations in August can be achieved by the end of July. Kelapa Gading Sub-district was declared as one sub-districts that could provide inputs thus vaccination could run effectively and efficiently.

"We hope other regions can take good experiences from Jakarta that can be followed. WHO states that vaccines are effective, not only reducing transmission but also reducing symptoms and death risk," she said.

This webinar was not only attended by officials from agencies and institutions in Jakarta and other regions, but also representatives of central government.
