City Holds Webinar Themed BOR Management in COVID-19 Pandemic

Jakarta Public Policy Center held Kamis The Series webinar themed Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) Management in COVID-19 Pandemic Period, on Thursday (8/26).

The webinar is held to share knowledge from experts, provide information, useful experiences, and direct discussion with best practices about Jakarta Government's strategy in collaborating with hospitals throughout Jakarta in order to reduce BOR

This activity was attended by representatives from various agencies within Jakarta Government and central government to share experiences and information about BOR management.

Jakarta BPSDM Head, Mochamad Miftahullah Tamary in his remarks said that virtual seminar was a good opportunity for Jakarta Government and wider community to obtain more comprehensive information about the importance of controlling bed occupancy rate, especially for COVID-19 patients, during the pandemic.

"This virtual webinar is activity carried out by Jakarta Public Policy Center, where one of its duties is to provide information about things that have been done, are being worked on, and will be carried out by Jakarta Government. The webinar is held to share knowledge from experts, provide information, useful experiences, and direct discussion with best practices about Jakarta Government's strategy in collaborating with hospitals throughout Jakarta in order to reduce BOR," he stated.

According to him, this webinar was attended by more than 300 representatives from communities and agencies in Jakarta Government and central government.

Jakarta Health Agency's Health Service Division Head, Weningtyas Purnomorini conveyed, active cases in Jakarta had continued to declined from 100 thousands some time ago. At that time, all hospitals were experiencing difficulties.

"Yesterday's positive cases also decreased. The increase in cases is relatively not too high. Flashback to 2020, when the first COVID-19 case occurred in Wuhan, we had socialized health centers and hospitals. Long before announcement of the first case in March. PPE and health services had been prepared by Jakarta Government," she explained.

On January 27, 2020, Jakarta Health Agency had opened COVID-19 Command Post service for 24 hours. Every day, until now the callers is increasing. Warnings and directions were also conveyed to management of private buildings, malls, and others. He said that Jakarta has 194 hospitals, consisting of general and special hospitals. Special hospitals that serve residents for nutritional health, ENT, mothers and children at that time were also serve COVID-19 patients. Total bed occupancy rate for COVID-19 patients in Jakarta reached 23,780 percent.

"We can only prepare 23,700 beds for COVID-19 patients if BOR reaches 100 percent. But we should leave 50 percent for non-COVID-19 patients. Then, 81 referral hospitals which designated by Health Ministry, lastly was through Jakarta Governor's Decree No. 169 where it designated 101 referral hospitals. Despite the fact that there were 140 hospitals served for COVID-19 patients. Our highest BOR for isolation is 11,773 beds and the highest BOR for ICU is 1,651 beds. This is extraordinary struggle of hospital directors and health workers," he mentioned.

Hospital care, he continued, is an important assessment component as indicator in evaluating the handling of the pandemic.

"Thank God, now it's starting to slow down, although we are still on standby, hospital is still prepared if there is an increase again at any time. Now, BOR used for isolation reaches 19 percent, and 39 percent for ICU," he mentioned.  

In handling the pandemic, Jakarta Government visited health facilities to ensure their services, health protocol implementation, expand hospitals, and strengthen regulations. He also ensured that government guaranteed for the treatment. There was also weekly coordination meeting that involved related urban villages, hospitals and others.

The webinar also presented Jakarta Metropolitan Hospital Association Head, Koesmedi Priharto and RSKD Duren Sawit Directror, Theryoto.
