565 Cases of Violence Against Children Hit East Jakarta

The case of violence against children in East Jakarta keeps increasing each year. Since January-April 2014, the East Jakarta Legal System Division recorded that as many as 565 cases of violence against children has hit East Jakarta. 

In the law mentions the abusers may be charged under the criminal code, which stipulates a maximum sentence of 3-6 years or pay fine at Rp 72 million

Head of East Jakarta Legal System Division, Sukrawinata disclosed the 565 cases consists of 94 physical violence, 12 psychological violence, and 459 sexual violence. One prominent sexual violence is harassment case that happened to a third grade student of SDN 06 Petang Pondok Ranggon, Cipayung, in mid-2014. Ironically, it was done by her own teacher.

94 Violence Cases Happened in West Jakarta

To combat the case, he disclosed East Jakarta Administration continues to intensively conducting socialization in accordance with the Law No. 23/2002 on Children Protection.

"In the law mentions the abusers may be charged under the criminal code, which stipulates a maximum sentence of 3-6 years or pay fine at Rp 72 million," he stated, Wednesday (11/26).

Meanwhile, East Jakarta Mayor, HR Krisdianto disclosed based on data of the Woman and Children Community Empowerment of Women and Children Office, the high amount of the violence case against children is Jakarta.

"Resident's legal awareness is still low. Whereas, we've often done socialization by involving stakeholders," he expressed.
