East Jakarta Mayor Monitors Normalization Work on Munjul Reservoir

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar monitored Munjul Reservoir dredging work on Jl. Wijaya Kusuma RT 04 and 05 Munjul, Cipayung, on Wednesday (9/15). Normalization work progress on the 3-hectare reservoir has been carried out by East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency since March and it is targeted to be completed in December.

Munjul Reservoir will be dredged to depth of 4-5 meters

In this monitoring, he was accompanied by number of officials, including East Jakarta Government Assistant for Economy and Development, Kusmanto; East Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Head, Santo; Cipayung Sub-district Head, Panangaran Ritonga; Munjul Urban Vuillage Head, Sumarjono; and other related officials.

According to him, this monitoring was carried out to ensure reservoir normalization work to run well.

After dredging, he hopes Munjul Reservoir can have capacity up to 42,000 cubic meters. Thus water flow from Sunter River to Cipinang Melayu and its surrounding area can be controlled in order to minimize occurrence of flooding during high-intensity rain.

"We normalize Munjul Reservoir so that it can hold more water discharge. Therefore we can control water flow on downstream. Thus when local rain falls, there will be no flood," he said.

With this dredging, he assessed, flood that often occurs in several areas in East Jakarta can be minimized, such as in Cipinang Melayu, Cipinang Indah, Pondok Bambu, and even to Pulogadung area.

"Munjul Reservoir will be dredged to depth of 4-5 meters. Hopefully it can minimize the occurrence of flooding or inundation," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Cipayung Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Unit Head, Dian Kartika added, her side deployed 5 heavy equipment, namely 1 mini amphibious unit, 2 long arms units, and 2 standard units to dredge the reservoir.

"Current dredging progress has reached two meters depth," she conveyed.

She explained, dredged soil was piled on the sides of reservoir to build 5-meter-wide inspection roads.

"We build inspection road for maintenance and mobilization of heavy equipment," she closed.
