 Ahok: Minimarket Menjamur Karena Kebutuhan

Ahok Does Not Have Qualm with 7-Eleven Rampant Existence

The rampant existence of 7-Eleven minimarts in the capital city is not a problem to Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama who assessed such a thing is reasonable due to citizens’ needs. This statement is out to respond the news that said tens of 7-Eleven stores in South Jakarta violate the rule.

(In) modern city, 7-Eleven had to exist anywhere. How could it grow? Because there is demand

“(In) modern city, 7-Eleven had to exist anywhere. How could it grow? Because there is demand,” he said, Wednesday (11/26).

In his opinion, many teenagers utilize the existence of 7-Eleven because the era has changed. Besides, traditional market in the city does not open for 24-hour.

“Why do you love to shop there? Because the era has changed. We work from morning, have no time to go traditional market because we got home at night and the market has closed. So, this problem is not the minimart’s fault,” he uttered.

Even so, Ahok stressed that he is not hesitate to take action against minimart management who violated the rule and that Jakarta Provincial Government keeps monitoring minimart’s existence in the city. In addition, city administration is still looking for formula to improve developing traditional market, thus it would not lose in competing with modern market.

“Now, it is how we make the traditional market to be more comfortable. You cannot burdening the people. If you did not efficient, I will defend those village stores, so if they sold (goods) more expensive it is okay. But if they violated (the rule), we will arrest them,” he asserted.

As previously reported, there are at least 20 7-Eleven stores in South Jakarta which violate designation rule and still operating until now. Among those stores are located on Jalan Kemang Selatan 12, Jalan Cipete V, Jalan Tebet Raya No. 55, Jalan Panglima Polim Raya No. 25, Jalan Raya Pejaten No. 20A, Jalan Kyai Maja Blok E1 35, Jalan Wolter Monginsidi No. 24, Jalan Kesehatan Raya No. 1A, and Jalan RS Fatmawati No. 11.
