Jakarta Launches Development of Kampung Susun for Bukit Duri Evictees

The Jakarta administration, officially launched the construction of a Kampung Susun Produktif Tumbuh (vertical village) on HPL 04 Jatinegara Land for the evictees of Bukit Duri in South Jakarta, whose homes were demolished in 2016 due to the normalization of the Ciliwung River.

It is designed to facilitate around 75 households

"It is designed to facilitate around 75 households. They've been waiting for five years, and Alhamdulillah we finally realize it this year considering everything must go through an orderly administration and ensure that everything is run properly," expressed Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Thursday (10/7).

It is the result of a plan that accommodates the aspirations of the residents with the concept of "Kampung Susun Produktif Tumbuh Cakung". It is not about a decent residence, but also has a design that maintains social relations with the community, becomes a productive and environmentally friendly dwelling as it was built with an environmentally friendly concept, by providing detention ponds and retention ponds to optimize the use of rainwater, as well as water absorption.

"We are grateful, as the project that is being built is a village concept that by design can facilitate the interaction of the village community as they used to live," he explained.

"The second is the building that allows them to be productive at home. That's why, the design has a mezzanine, allowing them to work from home, especially during a pandemic like today. Then the third is environmentally friendly design, one of which can manage water well and manage natural resources," he furthered.

Moreover, he added, it was an effort to fulfill his promise, namely to provide justice and opportunities for Jakarta residents to find housing, especially for urban residents where the need to live is a necessity.

"For us, this is one of the promises that we meet and one of the basic things that we all need to be aware of. That whoever is in this city, deserves justice, deserves a chance, including when access to housing. So we want a new chapter for them (Bukit Duri residents), hopefully we can finish it by the upcoming March," he added.

One of Bukit Duri representatives, Sandiawan Sumardi, appreciated all parties involved in this project and emphasized that this residence would be a legacy for those who participate.

"This village dwelling is meaningful, the house is where the story begins. And this is the beginning of our life's struggle begins, the struggle of our children later. It will be a legacy for the Governor and his ranks, where small people with minimal material do not deserve a residential house and today the legacy that all of this is possible, we feel humanized," he continued.

As for the information, the kampung susun building consists of two blocks with 5 floors height, with a total of 79 units of split-level residential units. It is completed with multipurpose rooms, musala (prayer rooms), health service facilities, RT and management offices, kindergartens, children's playground, parking, parks, etc. While the area of residential flats is around 4,407 m2 which is part of the HPL 4 land as wide as 29,070 m2 and is listed as an asset belonging to the Pulogadung UPK-PPUKMP.
