Ukrainian Ambassador Participates in Grape Harvesting in Munjul

Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianin accompanied by his wife and embassy officials attended grape harvesting activity at RW 06 Munjul Urban Village, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday (10/23). On this occasion, the state guests also symbolically planted grape seeds in local residents' homes.

Today's harvest reached 25 kilograms of grapes

After arriving at the location, Mr. Vasyl Hamianin and his entourage were greeted with rabana music by local mosque youth group. They were also given flower garland by PAUD Cempaka Munjul students named  Putri (5), Umar (5), Nadia (5), and Junior (5).

They were also welcomed by East Jakarta Secretary, Fredy Setiawan; Marshal Tribowo; East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Acting Head, Panangaran Ritonga; Munjul Urban Village Head, Sumarjono; and other related officials.

In this activity, the Ukrainian Ambassador provided assistance in form of grape seeds and planted them with residents. Furthermore, his side harvested grapes together with officials from East Jakarta Government and local residents.

He admitted that he was very happy to participate in planting and harvesting grapes in Munjul. According to him, it was the first activity he participated in Jakarta, even in Indonesia.

"In Southern Ukraine and Eastern Ukraine, there are also many people who grow grapes. Many types of grapes cannot be found in other countries, because grapes are special, they can be processed into food or drink. Many countries grow grapes and it is hoped Indonesia will be a part of country that produces a lot of grapes," he conveyed.

East Jakarta Secretary, Fredy Setiawan said, large number of grapes harvested in Munjul is a proof that urban farming program is running well. His side also motivated and encouraged other residents in East Jakarta to grow grapes thus later they can harvest grapes together.

"It is a clear evidence that urban farming is not impossible. Grape planting activity for urban farming needs to be improved. Because it can increase economic value as well as agro-tourism for residents," he stated.

RW 06 Munjul Head, Iwan said, they harvested total 25 kilograms of grapes today. There are five Ukrainian grape varieties which successfully harvested in the region. Those grapes have been planted since September 2020.

Grape cultivation in Munjul is carried out through collaboration between residents of RW 06 Munjul Urban Village, Jakarta Grape Community (KAJ), East Jakarta Government, and Ukrainian Embassy.

"Today's harvest reached 25 kilograms of grapes. Some are distributed to residents, some are sold at price Rp 100,000 per kilogram. We are very happy because the hard work in a year is starting to pay off," he mentioned.
