SDA Personnel Normalize Channel on Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur 1

Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency normalized channel on Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur 1, RT 13/08, Karet Tengsin Urban Village, Tanah Abang. Normalization was conducted by building new channel as an artificial canal to anticipate inundation on Jalan Abdul Jalil.

The work was hampered due to utility cables under the channel

Central Jakarta SDA Sub-agency's Maintenance Section Head, Achmad Daeroby said, his side built new channel to overcome inundation that often occur on Jalan Abdul Jalil, especially during heavy rain. The channel is built with length 1,143 meters with width 1.2 meters and depth 2.5 meters.

"Central Jakarta Mayor instructs us to build new channel on this location to overcome inundation in Karet Tengsin," he mentioned, Tuesday (11/2).

According to him, personnel has started the construction since a month ago and it is targeted to be completed by the end of December. His side deployed 20 personnel equipped with hoes, crowbars, buckets, breakers, sledgehammers, and plastic sacks to build the channel manually.

"The work was hampered due to utility cables under the channel," he added.

Until today, its progress has reached 9.6 meters or about 15 percent. He hopes by normalizing the channel, it can minimize inundation that often occurs on Jalan Abdul Jalil.
