Flooding in Kampung Melayu Begins to Subside

It has started to recede at 9 AM. Then at 1:30 PM, the condition has returned to normal

Heavy rains in Bogor caused flooding in Jakarta yesterday, precisely in Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta began to subside. Residents who fled yesterday have returned to their homes to clean up garbage and mud left over from the flood.

Kampung Melayu Urban Village Head, Angga Harjuno said, the overflowing CIliwung River inundated residential areas in RW 04 and 05 at around 1 AM. Then at 3:01 AM, the water level hit 2.5 meters. But, it was gradually receding at 8 AM. Then at 1:30 PM, it left 50 centimeters height, which previously reached more than one meter. While in RW 07 and 08, the floods have receded.

He added, there were around 300 evacuated at SDN 01/02 Kampung Melayu (120 people or 41 households), Ikhtihadul Huda Mosque RW 08 (150 people or 53 households), and RW 07 Post (30 people or 10 households).

"Some are still evacuated, as their homes are still inundated, especially the elderly, mothers and children," he explained.

In the field, he had dispatched around 39 PPSU personnel and five Satpol PP personnel to conduct monitoring while distributing packaged rice meals from the Social Sub-agency to local residents.

RW 08 Kampung Melayu Chairman, Afrizal said, at around 1:30 PM, the water began to hit the houses of residents spread across 16 RTs with a water level of 50-100 centimeters.

"It has started to recede at 9 AM. Then at 1:30 PM, the condition has returned to normal," he continued.

He added, there is still about 10-15 centimeters of mud remaining, especially in RT 06, 13, 14, and 15.

"We will do a cleanup action together with locals, PPSU and SDA Task Force tomorrow here," he stated.
