47 Percent Positive Cases in Jakarta Today are from Immigrant Workers who Undergo Quarantine

COVID-19 positive cases in Jakarta increased today by 130 cases from total 15,629 people tested to diagnose new cases. Jakarta Health Agency's Disease Prevention and Control Division Head, Dwi Oktavia stated, from 130 additional positive cases today, 47 percent or 61 cases were immigrant workers who were undergoing quarantine period.

"Health quarantine is one of central government's policies as an effort to prevent virus transmission from abroad to Indonesia. Every foreign traveler whose test result is positive for COVID-19 will be tested further with whole genome sequencing (WGS) examination. We, at Jakarta Health Agency, are actively conducting WGS examination to see possibility of dangerous virus mutation or variant of concern (VOC)," she explained at Jakarta Health Agency Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (11/17), as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

For information, her side had carried out WGS examination with total 2,245 samples. As many as 54.3 percent of WGS examination results were dangerous viral mutation/VOC. About 93 percent of VOC was Delta variant and its sub-variants, while the rest were Alpha, Beta, and Kappa variants. Then, 28 percent of VOC infected people under 18 years old, 62 percent in people aged 10-59, and 10 percent in people aged 60 years and over.

Jakarta Strengthens Synergy in Facing Rainy Season Amid Covid

Based on data from Jakarta Health Agency, distribution of positive cases today by region, namely South Jakarta is 24 cases (18.46 percent), North Jakarta 13 cases (10 percent), East Jakarta 12 cases (9.23 percent), West Jakarta 11 cases (8.46 percent), Central Jakarta 9 cases (6.92 percent), and outside Jakarta/immigrant workers 61 cases (46.92 percent).

As for positive cases based on age group, namely 0-18 years were 6.93 percent, 19-59 years were 110 cases (84.62 percent), and 60 years and over were 11 cases (8.46 percent).

People aged 12 years and over are advised to be fully vaccinated (two doses) immediately, adopt healthy lifestyle, and control comorbidity for those who have it. In addition, continue to wear mask, comply with 5M health protocols, etc. Immediately go to the nearest health center (Puskesmas) if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have close contact with positive case for free PCR test.
