London Govt Donates 12 Bicycles to City Govt

There is something different in the Car Free Day (HBKB) this morning, Sunday (11/30). Departed from governor’s home office on Jalan Taman Suropati No. 7, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ T Purnama, City Secretary Saefullah, and some work unit (SKPD) heads went cycling together and then met up with President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and London Mayor Boris Johnson at HI Roundabout.

In this occasion, Johnson handed over 12 bicycles which donated by London City Government to Jakarta Provincial Government. According to the plan, these bicycles are going to be used for operational in Monas.

Tired, Jokowi Off Cycling to City HallMoreover, Johnson gives credit to Jakarta Provincial Government for holding the Car Free Day along Jalan Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin on every Sunday morning. According to him, such program has not existed yet in London because it takes a big courage to close the road for motor vehicles and let the people instead to go on exercising and cycling on the road.
“I’m very very impressed, really appreciated it because it is really hard to manage these many people to gather in one point. I’m also going to adopt Car Free Day in London,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, Jokowi told that Jakarta also needs to learn many things from London, especially about transportation.
“If I were still a (Jakarta) governor, I would learn about big city management in London and also about its transportation and subway,” he stated while hoping Ahok to continue the cooperation with London.
Responding Jokowi’s wish, Ahok promised to do so and visit London.
“Not bad, going to London for free,” he joked.
In addition, Ahok also praised Johnson’s appearance which he assessed has in common with Jokowi.
“Both are rock stars,” he said.
