Ciliwung River Normalization Targeted to Complete in 2016

Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama is targeting the normalization project of Ciliwung River to complete in upcoming 2016.

“The target is (Ciliwung River normalization) finish in 2016 because of the actions of people who occupy the riverbank and inspection road. We prepare flats. Ciliwung River normalization is targeted to finish completely in 2016,” he stated, Monday (12/1).
Ahok is optimistic the target would be achieved. Moreover, Jakarta District Military (Kodam Jaya) is ready to help Jakarta Provincial Government in Ciliwung River handling. City administration also has asked for permission to Kodam Jaya to utilize TNI’s land along the riverbank.

To discuss this matter, Ahok on Friday (11/28) invited Kodam Jaya Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. TNI Teddy Lhaksamana to City Hall last week. The meeting also discussed about cooperation between Jakarta Provincial Government and TNI personnel mobilization to clean the trashes along Ciliwung River watershed (DAS).
“The soldiers are used to war. If they worked together, the results are neat and very good. We want like that, work together to clean Ciliwung River,” he uttered.
Ahok also disclosed that Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated budget as much as Rp 100 billion for Ciliwung River handling. Later, around the river there would be jogging track and dock for water transportation.
