Cleanliness Dept to Take Over the Handling of 13 Rivers in City

Many agencies involved in managing 13 rivers in the capital city are alleged as the cause of slow flood handling in Jakarta. Hence, Jakarta Provincial Government will hand over the rivers handling to Jakarta Cleanliness Department.

“Rivers management will be handed over to Jakarta Cleanliness Department. We’re currently still waiting for handover ceremony from related unit to the governor to be handed to us,” stated Head of Water Channels and Parks Cleanliness Implementation Unit for Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Mumuh Mulyana, Friday (11/28).

According to Mulyana, later his party will not only handling the trash, but also repairing and doing maintenance works on water pumps, automatic trash filters, as well as heightening river embankments.

Residents Demand Krukut River to Be Dredged

Here are the 13 rivers that stretch in Jakarta:

1. Mookevart River on the edge of Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta;

2. Angke River in South and West Jakarta;

3. Pesanggrahan River in South and West Jakarta;

4. Grogol River in South and West Jakarta;

5. Krukut River in South and Central Jakarta;

6. Baru Barat River in Central Jakarta;

7. Ciliwung River in South, East, and Central Jakarta;

8. Baru Timur River in Central, South, and East Jakarta;

9. Cipinang River in East and Central Jakarta;

10. Sunter River in East and Central Jakarta;

11. Buaran River in East Jakarta;

12. Jati Kramat River in East Jakarta;

13. Cakung River in East Jakarta.

These rivers empty into the Jakarta Bay and go straight to the sea because they are connected with the West Flood Canal (KBB), East Flood Canal (KBT), Cengkareng Drain, and Cakung Drain.
