East Jakarta Baznas Bazis East Builds 18 Septic Tanks for Poor People in Setu

East Jakarta Baznas Bazis has made 18 septic tanks in people poor houses in Setu Urban Village, Cipayung, East Jakarta, which aims to anticipate stunting cases and maintain environmental health.

East Jakarta Baznas Bazis Coordinator, Eka Napisah said, 15 septic tanks were from her party and three other tanks were from local residents. Those given to the poor who have been throwing their feces into ponds or waterways near their homes.

"If we ignore it, it will disrupt their health and environment," she stated, Tuesday (11/1).

Jakarta 4 Baznas Bazis Vice Chairman, Nasir Tajang added, the community-based total sanitation (STBM) program in the community is still being promoted, targeting people who do not have a septic tank.

"Each tank needs a fund by Rp 1.5 million and its making takes one month," he said.

By so, it could make the environment healthy and prevent stunting cases in the community. The entire cost of making this septic tank came from ZIS fund, which is managed by the community.

Aside that, Cipayung Sub-district Head, Panangaran Ritonga had proposed about making 185 units. Thus far, 34 units have been realized.

"This can motivate sub-district and urban village caretakers to explore the potentials that exist in the area for ZIS. Considering the fund will be channeled to the community through development programs," he stated.

Sompen bin Namin (76), one of locals whose house was built with a septic tank said he was very happy. He admitted, he had been throwing feces into the pond on the east side of his house. Actually, owning a septic tank has been his dream for a long time but it has not been realized, as he doesn't have enough money. Moreover, he was no longer working and only relied on help from his son for living expenses.

"Alhamdulillah, very grateful and appreciate it. This is very beneficial for our family's health," he closed.
