Hearse Boat Officially Operates to Serve Thousand Islands Residents

Hearse boat named Praja Jempana Antaka XI of Thousand Islands Regency has officially operated since Wednesday (1/26) by carrying a body of Kelapa Island Urban Village residents, North Thousand Islands Sub-district.

Thousand Islands Regency Secretariat's Equipment Sub-section Head, Badri mentioned, after meeting the seaworthy criteria in December 2021, the Praja Jempana Antaka XI Hearse boat officially carried the body of Nuraji (82), a resident of RT 06/02, Kelapa Island Urban Village who died in hospital on the mainland of Jakarta. Nuraji's body was brought back to Kelapa Island Urban Village through Marina Ancol Pier, North Jakarta.

"This funeral service can be accessed for free, especially for Thousand Islands residents who died on the mainland of Jakarta and want to be buried in Thousand Islands," he said, Friday (1/28).

Residents who need hearse boat service just need to bring a copy of their Thousand Islands ID Card (KTP) and make a letter of application to the urban village or sub-district office according to Thousand Islands Regent's Circular Letter No. 356/2019 on Boat Use to Deliver Bodies.

"It can be accessed every day, from 05:00 to 17:00. For nearby islands such as Untung Jawa Island and Pari Island, it is available until 18:00 with condition that the boat will stay overnight on the destination island," he explained.  

He hoped that the number of hearse boats could be increased, at least one boat for each sub-district in order to provide the best public service.

"Hopefully, it can help ease the burden of residents. So, let's take care of this boat," he stated.
