6 Buildings in Kota Tua to Be Registered to UNESCO

Six cultural heritage buildings in Kota Tua, Tamansari Sub-District, West Jakarta, will be registered to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world heritage site. Those buildings are Bahari Museum, Jakarta Historical Museum, Wayang Museum, Mandiri Museum, and Bank Indonesia Museum.

“Jakarta Provincial Government together with Tourism Ministry currently in the early stage of planning to register six buildings in Kota Tua to UNESCO in upcoming 2018,” stated Head of Kota Tua Management Unit Development Section, Norviadi S Husodo, Thursday (12/4).

According to Husodo, the early stage includes educating the citizens about Kota Tua. The next stage is holding discussion with UNESCO Jakarta about which buildings that could be maintained.

“The beauty of buildings’ architectures and city’s layout, which were very dynamic, made Kota Tua the best in Asia and even one of the best in the world. It happened during the colonial era when the Dutch led this country,” he uttered.

Because of that, no wonder the Old Batavia at that was dubbed as the ‘Pearl from the East’ and ‘Queen from the East’ by the European and Asian traders. That is because the beauty of Batavia City was similar to Amsterdam City in Holland, and also as the center of trading in Asia Continent.
