City’s Anniversary Date Being Discussed in Seminar

For some people, Jakarta’s anniversary that is commemorated on every June 22 still left pros and cons. This was revealed in a seminar that discussed about Jakarta city birth anniversary, which held by Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department at a hotel in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/9).

One of the speakers in the seminar, Mu’jizah, a lecture of Literature Faculty, University of Indonesia (UI), disclosed that history tracing always triggers controversy, including about Jakarta’s anniversary.

“There could be a deconstruction or lawsuit from the society about the truth of Jakarta’s anniversary. However, the anniversary itself has been agreed since Sudiro became Jakarta Mayor, lasted for 486 years. If it was going to be criticized, further study is needed,” she uttered.

South Jakarta Kicks Off Job Fair

In that occasion, urban observer Amir Hamzah said that June 22, 1527, has been set as Jakarta’s anniversary based on the Temporary City Council Decree No. 6/D/K/1956. However, later there are opinions and aspirations that doubted the date.

“The opinions and aspirations which supported with scientific research of course should get attention from Jakarta Provincial Government,” he stated.
