Ahok will Not Revise the 2015 UMP

The labors are holding demonstration again in front of City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (12/10), demanding Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama to raise the 2015 Jakarta Province Minimum Wage (UMP) to Rp 3 million.

Although we are pressed (to raise UMP), but if there were no definite basic and reason, we will reject it

However, Basuki confirmed that Jakarta Provincial Government will not revise the UMP from what has been determined in the amount of Rp 2.7 million. The reason is because he assessed the labors have no definite parameters to raise the UMP.

“Although we are pressed (to raise UMP), but if there were no definite basic and reason, we will reject it. Besides, the element of fuel (BBM) price hike had been included, discussed, and calculated,” he stated.

According to Ahok, the Rp 2.5 million predetermined UMP amount is already fit to the Wage Council proposal that is based on the Standard Cost of Living (KHL). Moreover, some labors’ demands have been accommodated in every UMP discussion, such as demand for instant noodle and drinking water additional value, as well as has considered the inflation rate.

“If they got no basic, we turn down their reasons. If they have reasons, I will help. My task is to help everyone, like fighting for the drinking water and instant noodle instead of wheat flour. But about watching movie at 21 (cinema), I cannot help,” he asserted.

Ahok also promised there would be no postponement on UMP next year.

“We don’t want any postponement, this is a negotiation that we set for new employee,” he uttered.

Therefore, he does not bother with the massive rally staged by the labors today.

“Go ahead stage demonstration,” he said.
