Twitter to Open Branch Office in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama on Thursday (12/11) was visited by board of directors of Twitter Incorporation (Inc.). In this occasion, Twitter Inc. conveyed their wish to open a representative office in Jakarta.

“Jakarta is one of the regions with biggest twitter’s user basis in the world. That’s why we’re going to open our branch office here in few months ahead,” stated Twitter Inc. Marketing Director for India and South East Asia Region, Rishi Jaitly, after the meeting with Ahok at City Hall.

In addition, Twitter Inc. board of directors also expressed their wish to help Jakarta Provincial Government in providing fast information on locations that are hit by flood.

“Thus, twitter can be used by the government to respond citizens’ complaints and quickly solve variety of issues that happened and experienced by the citizens,” he uttered.

Jaitly gave example the launch of www.petajakarta.org website some time ago as one of twitter’s use to detect flood occurrence in Jakarta.

“The citizens can find out the locations inundated or flooded,” he said.

With that website, Jaitly told that Jakarta Provincial Government can quickly respond to do flood handling and evacuate flood victims.

“There are many other ideas that can be realized to solve various kinds of problems in Jakarta. We are expecting there would be more cooperation with Jakarta Provincial Government after twitter officially opens its branch office here,” he said.
