Hydroponic cultivation has great potential to be developed because it is capable of becoming a source of income and meeting residents' needs for vegetables.

Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan)'s Agriculture Human Resources Development and Counseling Head Dedi Nursyamsi conveyed that hydroponic cultivation was very suitable to be developed in urban areas due to limited land.

"Results of hydroponic cultivation in urban areas can be used to meet residents' needs and reap profits from selling vegetables," he said when having small talk online while waiting for breaking the fast, Tuesday (4/26) late afternoon.

Seeing the potential, his side encouraged Jakartans to become generic hydroponic farmers by utilizing vacant land in their homes.

"Not only eating healthy vegetables, but hydroponic cultivation can also bring in money," he expressed.

South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency's Food Security Section Head Nila Kartika said that her side fostered 265 urban farmers across 10 sub-districts.

Most urban farmers used small land around their homes to be used as an agricultural area, especially hydroponic cultivation to grow vegetables.

"In guiding them, we are not only assisting in farming, but also marketing. We help market their urban farming products to several supermarkets," she mentioned.

Pesanggrahan Sub-district Generic Hydroponic Independent Agricultural and Rural Training Center (P4S) Head Latifah told that she managed to plant 8 kinds of vegetables through hydroponic cultivation in her house. Every week, she could harvest and sold 60 kilograms of vegetables.

"We also market hydroponic products through the green alley program to increase income as housewives," she uttered.
