DPRD Wants to Take Over Management of 13 Rivers to Jakarta Administration

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Chairman Prasetyo Edi Marsudi wants the Jakarta administration to manage 13 rivers in Jakarta thus the Central Government concentrates more on the process of relocating the State Capital (IKN) from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.

So far , its management lies in the central government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR).

"I'm sure it will solve the flood problem in Jakarta," he expressed, at City Council Building, Tuesday (5/10).

He admitted that the statement had been made since the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) with the Central Government and Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor, in 2019. But, until now, there has been no answer to the request.

He added that the most complicated problem facing Jakarta is overcoming traffic jams and flooding. Therefore, if the city could take over the river management, the resources owned by the provincial government were sufficient to make improvements, so they were able to overcome the flood problem.

Moreover, when there is a problem of congestion or flooding in Jakarta, it often triggers a debate on who should be responsible between the central government or the regional government.

"To not blame each other, leave it to us. We have a lot of tools, we can afford it," he stressed.
