Community Service Held on Friday and Sunday, Djarot Says

A coordination and preparation meeting to anticipate flood was held by Jakarta Provincial Government along with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) at City Hall, Friday (12/19). One of the result agreements from the coordination meeting at this time is about the community service that will be held every Friday and Sunday to anticipate flood.

"We've no more time. There must be a voluntary work every Friday and Sunday," said Djarot Saiful Hidayat, after leading the coordination meeting with Forkopimda, Friday (12/19).

Djarot added, the voluntary work is focused on mosquito eradication (PSN) every Friday. Meanwhile on Sunday, voluntary work is held by the mayor, sub-district heads and urban village heads with the residents. "It is not only a movement, but also the environment, sewers and drains cleaning activity," told Djarot.

With this community service, he hoped, to minimize the area affected by flooding. Thus the flooding in capital could be decreased gradually. "So, there is improvement in the quality and quantity in Jakarta from year to year. It can reduce the flooding of at least five to six upcoming years," he explained.

The last year data mentioned, as many as 37 sub-districts were affected by floods which are consists of 125 villages, 634 RWs, and 276 thousand citizens. The data will be used as a reference for this year's flood management. He also requested the Provincial Working Unit (SKPD) to reduce flooding.

"We need to work extra hard, so the worst predictions do not occur or can be minimized. The affected area also can be reduced," he said.
