Formula E Prompts Jakarta to Realize Sustainable Transportation and Mobility

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan attended the 2022 Jakarta's Formula E meet and greet at Monas, Central Jakarta, Thursday (6/2).

This is an honor for Jakarta because we have the opportunity to host the event in the ninth race series for the 2021-2022 season

This activity aimed to introduce all Formula E drivers who will compete in Jakarta, in the continuation of the ninth racing series for the 2021/2022 season, on June 4.

As the host, he welcomed the arrival of guests from various countries at the event. The Jakarta Government wanted to show that Jakarta is a global city, especially in the success of this Formula E event.

Governor: All Preparations for Jakarta E-Prix are Going Well

"We welcome all committees, racers, and officials. This is an honor for Jakarta because we have the opportunity to host the event in the ninth race series for the 2021-2022 season. We hope to witness a fierce race from the racers who will compete at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC)," he conveyed as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

The purpose of holding Formula E in Jakarta was to realize and encourage the existence of electric vehicles sustainably. He mentioned that it was in line with Jakarta's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2050.

"Therefore, we need to collectively socialize it, thus the efforts to reduce emissions in global cities, especially in Jakarta, can be implemented," he added.

He also assessed that Jakarta is ready to realize sustainable transportation and mobility through an integrated transportation system and is committed to switching the existing Transjakarta fleets to electricity fleets regularly to create emission reductions and make air quality healthier.

"We are showing the world that Jakarta is ready to become a global city that takes transformative action in tackling climate change, creating a livable environment, and ensuring the mobility of its population depends on electric public transportation," he asserted.

He also hoped that the Formula E event in Jakarta could bring the government and residents to take responsibility for tackling the climate crisis that has arisen due to air pollution, by switching from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles.

"The impact we are expecting is to strengthen the responsibility to accelerate sustainable mobility, as well as create a green environment. At this Saturday's race, we all have high hopes for all racers to show a great match when competing," he expressed.

The meet and greet activity was also attended by Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria; Jakarta Government ranks; Formula E Chief Championship Officer and Co-Founder Alberto Longo; Formula E CEO Jammie Reigle; Jakarta Formula E Organizing Committee Chairman Ahmad Sahroni; Ikatan Motor Indonesia Chairman Bambang Soesatyo; Mercedes-EQ Formula E-Team Driver Nyck de Vries; and PT. Jakarta Propertindo Director Widi Amanasto and his subordinates.
