City to Build Parks on PT KAI’s Lands

Jakarta Provincial government plans to build parks on PT KAI’s lands, especially on the side of the railroads which often converted into illegal settlements. And to parse the traffic, city government would also build flyovers and underpasses at some railway crossings.

We will re-arrange the lands around the railroads and make nice parks

Before doing that, Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidajat came to Transportation Ministry office on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, to meet Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan and ask for his permission as well as discuss the plan which scheduled to be carried out in 2015.

“We’re going to build (flyovers and underpasses) at some points. This is one of the efforts to parse traffic jam. The budget would be using the 2015 City Budget (APBD). The amount is still being calculated, because the (construction) points are still being studied,” uttered Djarot after the meeting, Wednesday (12/24).

In the meeting, Djarot added, he also asked permit for Jakarta Provincial Government to build parks on PT KAI’s lands. As known, all this time the lands on the side of railroads are often used as illegal settlements which look shabby and dirty.

“We will re-arrange the lands around the railroads and make nice parks. I’ve told Jakarta Parks Department to count the points which will be reforested in advance,” he stated.
