Tiu Reservoir Dredging Reaches 50 Percent

The dredging work on the Tiu Reservoir in Setu Urban Village, Cipayung, East Jakarta has shown the progress of about 30 percent.

Cipayung Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit Head Dian Kartika expressed the dredging was carried out to clean up mud using four standard-sized heavy equipment thus it would take a long time. Moreover, the access to the location was narrow thus big-sized equipment could not enter.

"Nevertheless, we're trying to finish it by the end of this year," she stated, Friday (6/16).

She explained that the dredged mud would be dumped at a site near the reservoir for the construction of a dam and an inspection road as access to reservoir maintenance.

She added it was done to accommodate water in large quantities from the Kali Sunter River before being flowed back to the river through existing outlet channels.

"This is to anticipate flooding in some areas along the river, such as Lubang Buaya, Cipinang Melayu, Pondok Bambu, and others," she concluded.
