Traffic Accident in S. Jakarta Killed 53 People This Year

The accident rate in South Jakarta is still high due to low awareness of road users. In 2014, the accident rate has reached 373 cases and killed 53 people.

The death number is 60 percent higher compared to last year

The death number is higher compared to 2013 by 33 people from 511 accident cases.

"The death number is 60 percent higher compared to last year," said Wahyu Hadiningrat, South Jakarta Resort Police Chief, Wednesday (12/31).

Hadiningrat continued, the injured people number in 2013 was 801 people, while this year is 1,077 people.

For material losses, he added, declined by 65 percent in 2013 by Rp 3.4 billion to Rp 1.2 billion this year.

Besides the traffic accidents, South Jakarta Metro Police also released the number of drug case suspect. There were 884 suspects in 2013, while this year is 509 suspects.

"We seized 1,605.9 kg of marijuana, 32.68 gram of heroin, 361.34 gram of methamphetamine, and 778 grains of ecstasy in 2013. In 2014, we seized 208.5 kg of marijuana, 9.49 gram of heroin, 310 gram of methamphetamine, and 46 grains of ecstasy. The conversion value is Rp 63.14 billion," he explained.
