Jakarta Sees Increase in Foreign Tourists

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has noted that as many as 57,844 foreign tourists visited Jakarta via Soekarno-Hatta Airport in May 2022.

BPS Head Anggoro Dwitjahyono said foreign tourist visits in May 2022 were quite high by 60.41 percent compared to April 2022 (m-to-m). In May 2022, the tourist visits increased by 352.54 percent (y-on-y) compared to May 2021.

"In the meantime, we do not accept tourist visits through Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, as it is still in the process of revitalization," he stated, Monday (7/4).

Disparbud: Foreign Tourist Visit to Jakarta Increases

He explained that the five biggest countries visited Jakarta in May 2022. They were Malaysia (6,594 visits), Singapore (4,273 visits), United States (3,855 visits), South Korea (3,796 visits), and China (3,751 visits).

If it was seen between April and May 2022, there was a slight change in position in the order of the five largest countries that visited Jakarta. In May 2022, the first place was Malaysia overtaking China and followed by Singapore replacing Malaysia.

"The United States is in the third place replacing Singaporean and followed by South Korea replacing China," he explained.

He added that the development of foreign tourist visits to Jakarta during the January to May 2022 period showed an increase compared to 2021.

In May 2022, there were about 57,840 visits or above 300 percent which was higher than May 2021 with 12,782 visits.

Based on the cumulative development from January to May 2022, foreign tourist visits reached 146,720, or an increase of 221.2 percent compared to the same period the previous year in 2021.

"When compared to the period during the pandemic, the condition is still not fully recovered," he stated.
