Witnessing Cutting Aerial Cables, Governor Anies Calls Acceleration towards a Modern City

The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has built integrated utility network facilities (SJUTs) on 32 roads.

This city is heading to become a modern, more global city that can facilitate residents' activities to run efficiently and effectively

It aims to support the implementation of digital infrastructure and the structuring of Jakarta into a Smart City and to realize the neatness of the city thus it is in line with the rules of urban spatial planning, sustainability, and aesthetics.

Ceremonially, the control of aerial cables in collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government and utility network owners was successfully conducted in the Mampang Prapatan Market's parking area, South Jakarta, Monday (9/5).

It was also attended by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his staff, together with representatives of 6 operators of telecommunications service providers in Jakarta, namely PT Telkom Indonesia, PT Mora Telematika Indonesia (Moratel), PT Link Net, Tbk, IBS, Icon+, and Lintasarta.

In his speech, he mentioned that cutting the aerial cable is part of the transformation of Jakarta into a modern global city, one of which is providing efficient resident connectivity.

“This city is heading to become a modern, more global city that can facilitate residents' activities to run efficiently and effectively. That means that the mobility of the population runs efficiently, all activities related to connectivity run smoothly and well," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Monday (9/5).

"That's why we are present in a ceremonial activity to independently reduce aerial cables as part of our efforts to make our cities clean, more efficient, and effective in managing the mobility of their residents," he added.

In addition to reducing aesthetics, the aerial cables also frequent incidents. Even, a lot of the wiring takes place alternately in the ground and creates massive traffic jams and annoys pedestrians.

“So, the current transformation is from top to bottom. Then from those under the chaotic different channels, becoming one unit thus they are neat, well-planned, and the maintenance is integrated,” he explained.

“Yesterday, we had some control, the operator was then asked to lower the cable down. We are now preparing the infrastructure, thus the descent and relocation are voluntary, as the ducting system or SJUT has been prepared. So, the operators who unload these cables are not only asked to lower them but to prepare the path to the bottom," he furthered.

He also hoped this process could be a good start, where the aerial cable would be lowered along the first 25 kilometers, starting on the main lines, then followed by other routes.

"Hope it can be continued to the end. If you look at them (cables), they are neat and also its system. Providing reassurance to all who have businesses that need cables can be like this. By doing so, pedestrians and motorists won't interfere with mobility, and entrepreneurs, have the certainty that maintenance can be carried out properly," he added.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Hari Nugroho explained that there were 32 road sections under which the SJUT arrangement was done with the construction divided into 22 roads in South Jakarta and 10 roads in East Jakarta.

As for the SJUT points that had been completed, they were seven roads along 20 kilometers in South Jakarta worked on by PT Jakarta Propertindo, with details of Jalan Mampang Prapatan, Jalan Kapten Tendean, Jalan Senopati, Jalan Suryo, Jalan Cikajang, Jalan Wolter Monginsidi, and Jalan Gunawarman.

"While the construction progress of the second phase of SJUT on Jalan Pattimura, Jalan Sultan Hasanuddin, and Jalan Trunojoyo along 5 kilometers, has now reached 44.77%. We'll also do the same thing on 25 roads in South and East Jakarta in the future," he uttered.

He added that the SJUT construction was conducted through an assignment to BUMD following Jakarta Governor's Decree No. 645/2021 on the appointment of the location for the Integrated Utility Network Facility by PT Jakarta Propertindo and Perumda Pembangunan Sarana Jaya.

PT Jakpro President Director, Widi Amanasto uttered that the aerial cable work on Jakarta's road section will be completed this year.

"The process of relocating aerial cables into SJUT is a continuous process. DBM is cutting the aerial cables every week with Jakpro throughout the Jakpro SJUT area which includes Mampang, Tendean, Gunawarman, and Senopati. It has been started since March 2022," he closed.
