Floods in N. Jakarta Sabotaged, Ahok Suspects

This is like sabotage, the contractor reasoned the levee was deliberately dismantled for heavy equipment driveway to dredge the mud at the river

Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama suspects there was a sabotage related with cause of flooding in North Jakarta, Friday (1/23). Recently, the floods in such area is caused by Kali Sunter Levee collapse.

"This is like sabotage, the contractor reasoned the levee was deliberately dismantled for heavy equipment driveway to dredge the mud at the river. Logically, they wanted to dredge the river during rainy season. Does it makes sense?," he expressed, at City Hall, Monday (1/26).

According to him, such dismantling is supposed not to be done considering it is already entered rainy season. "As you know, we have to use cement if want to dredge the levee, this is rainy season. There should be no dredging," he expressed.

But he does not have the evidence over levee collapse made by the contractor. Considering, similar case was encountered last year when 13 rivers were dredged.

"That's why I want police to uncover the case," he stressed.

According to Ahok, the contractor must file permission from Public Works Ministry if the contractor wants to dismantle the levee. "Whereas, we would strengthen the levee this year. But it was already dismantled. This is absolutely outrageous," he exclaimed.

Via short message, the case has been reported to Public Works and Public Housing Minister, Basuki Hadi Mulyono.
