Acting Governor Heru Attends MoU Signing for MRT Jakarta Phase 4 with South Korea

After agreeing on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan and Britain in the series of the G20 Leaders' Summit in Bali on Monday (11/14), on the same day, the Indonesian Government and South Korea Government, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the MRT Jakarta Phase 4 construction for Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan route.

These two countries will continue to increase cooperation not only in the railway sector, but also in the land, sea, and air sectors

The signing was attended by Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi; Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono; Land, Infrastructure, and Transport South Korea Minister, Won Hee-Ryong; and Ambassador to South Korea, Gandi Sulistiyanto.

"The construction of MRT Jakarta Phase 4 is one of the efforts to create a transit-oriented public transportation mode that is increasingly widespread and developing. Hopefully, it could prompt changes in people's behavior and lifestyle in terms of environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation, and being a solution to breaking down traffic jams," Acting Governor expressed.

MRT Jakarta Changes Operating Hours Today

Previously, to open opportunities for cooperation with the South Korean Government, the Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi made a working visit to South Korea in June 2022. He hoped that the MoU with South Korea would be the first step in accelerating the development of the MRT in Jakarta.

"These two countries will continue to increase cooperation not only in the railway sector, but also in the land, sea, and air sectors," he expressed.

This MoU with South Korea is also a follow-up to the talks at the 28th ASEAN Transport Minister Meeting which was held on October 16-17, 2022, in Bali. In the bilateral meeting, South Korea expressed its interest in participating in constructing the MRT Jakarta Phase 4 with the Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan route.

Japan, the United Kingdom, and South Korea are Indonesia's strategic partners who have carried out mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including the transportation sector.

The Indonesian Presidency at this year's G20 Leaders' Summit momentum was used to seek opportunities for cooperation in the development of transportation infrastructure with many countries, through non-APBN creative funding. It is done, thus the development of transportation infrastructure can continue to be conducted in order to increase the country's connectivity and competitiveness.
