Commission B: City Must Maintain Stock and Stability of Food Needs During Ramadan and Idul Fitri

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B wants the Jakarta Provincial Government to keep maintaining availability until the price of staple food commodities stabilized ahead of Ramadan and Idul Fitri 1444 Hijri.

We're working with the food task force, Polda Metro Jaya and Bulog to ensure food stocks are met

The statement above was stated by Commission B Chairman, Ismail when he held a joint meeting with regional apparatus organization (OPD) partners in the economic sector, Tuesday (3/21).

According to him, several commodities including premium rice, eggs, chilies, and onions had so far experienced price hikes in the market. Supervision of the availability of cooking oil in the market must also be anticipated, thus scarcity does not recur and result in price fluctuations.

"The availability of cooking oil is very vulnerable to disappearing in the market, so it must be anticipated in order to avoid panic buying in the community," he expressed.

Commission B Member, Hasan Basri Umar stated the inflation rate in Jakarta had a national impact.

"That's why, we hope that there will be joint efforts between Jakarta Government and central government in maintaining the stability of food prices in Jakarta," he said.

Meanwhile, Economics and Finance Assistant, Sri Haryati explained that her party and central government have so far taken tactical steps to maintain price stability for food needs in Jakarta.

"We're working with the food task force, Polda Metro Jaya and Bulog to ensure food stocks are met to reduce inflation in Jakarta," she explained.

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Agency (KPKP) Head, Suharini Eliawati added several anticipations to prevent inflation due to rising prices of food needs were taken by directly checking price stability and supply.

"We estimate that rice prices will increase by around 3.8 percent, broiler chickens by around 10.7 percent in this year's Ramadan. Meanwhile, during Idul Fitri, curly red chilies will increase by around 4.5 percent and beef by around 14.4 percent," she stated.
