Jakarta Branch Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Chairman, Hidayat Humaid strongly supports Youth and Sports Minister, Dito Ariotedjo, who wants gymnastics to become a mandatory sport in schools.

Very good, we support it

According to him, gymnastics and athletics are the mother of sport. Thus, it must be implemented in schools as a mandatory sport and it will be very good.

"This policy will also be a means of early education about the importance of sports. Very good, we support it," he expressed, Sunday (7/9).

Dispora Supports Menpora to Make Gymnastics Compulsory in Schools

The most important thing is it has important meaning for posture, balance to flexibility.

"Before carrying out the core exercise, we usually do what is called a warm-up and afterwards cool down or stretch. Both are important in sports activities and the movements that are conducted are actually part of gymnastics," he explained.

He continued schools in Jakarta had also carried out gymnastics which did not require equipment.

"For agility exercises, you really need equipment and there could be obstacles. Surely, you really need to be prepared," he explained.

He explained if there really was an insufficient need for instructors and sports teachers, Jakarta KONI was ready to work together.

"This is also an opportunity to empower athletes and retired athletes to be able to contribute directly or provide training to educators or instructors in the field of sports," he added.

With the increasing socialization and education of sports from an early age in Jakarta, it could increase students' interest in becoming athletes.

"Hopefully, more and more of our athletes will excel at the national and international levels," he hoped.
