Central Government Invited to Review Integrated Waste Management in Jakarta

The central government together with Jakarta Provincial Government, monitored waste management at the Pesanggrahan Jakarta Recycle Center (JRC), South Jakarta and Bantargebang TPST, Bekasi, West Java.

One of the important points of this preparation is waste management

Regional Research and Innovation Center for Bappeda Head, Adhika Ajie expressed today's visit is part of the cooperation between Bappeda and Bappenas. Bappenas is currently preparing a study related to the draft law specifically for Jakarta, which will no longer be the capital city.

"One of the important points of this preparation is waste management. That's why, we invite you to see directly the location of Jakarta's waste management," he said, Friday (7/14).

He added participations attended today was from Bappenas, Environment and Forestry Ministry, Public Works and Settlement Ministry, Home Ministry, State Secretariate Ministry, Law and Human Rights Ministry, Finance Ministry, ATR/BPN Ministry, Development Partner Agency, and representatives of Jakarta Provincial Government.

"Participants are given an overview and authority of the waste management system from upstream to downstream. Thus, it can identify a funding scheme for waste management," he explained.

He hoped that the visit could provide input and views in carrying out the academic preparation of the Jakarta Specificity Law draft. Thus, after the transfer of the capital city remains a sustainable global city.

"Even though there are still problems, we're very optimistic that Jakarta will remain an economic center. One source of this waste management," he added.

Bappenas Regional I Director, Abdul Malik Sadat Idris, appreciated the efforts of the Jakarta Government in dealing with the waste problem. In supporting the drafting of the Jakarta Special Law, there needs to be acceleration and synergy between institutions or ministries, thus they share roles to make breakthroughs.

"Hopefully, the specificity required by the Jakarta Government will be able to formulate it in a new regulation," he explained.

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto explained JRC is waste management that prioritizes waste sorting from the source. Currently, it has been conducted in two residential areas with a total of 771 people.

While the Bantargebang TPST is currently a PLTSa pilot project and also a Landfill Mining and RDF Plant waste processing which can reduce 1,000 tons per day of old waste and 1,000 tons per day of new waste.

"Hopefully, the development of Jakarta can provide the views of the Central team to draw up a bill," he stated.
