Sylviana: Jakarta is Seriously Facing Demographic Bonus

Senator in the Jakarta Coordination Board Jakarta of Regional Representatives Council (BKSP DPD), Sylviana Murni says Jakarta is serious about welcoming the demographic bonus by taking some steps or policies to prepare for a golden generation.

HR must be maintained by improving the quality of health and educated

According to her, in 2020-2030, Indonesia will get a demographic bonus. It is because in that year the total age of the workforce aged 15-64 years reached around 70 percent. Meanwhile, the unproductive generation aged 14 and under and 65 and over is only around 30 percent.

"That year, Indonesia will have around 180 million people of productive age. Jakarta is serious about preparing a quality generation to welcome the demographic bonus," she expressed, in a webinar entitled Demographic Bonuses and Human Development Towards Golden Indonesia 2045 initiated by the Heartful Huma Lantern (LHB), Saturday (7/15).

It was predicted that in 2045, Indonesia would become one of the seven economic powers in the world with per capita income reaching USD 47,000.

"To get there, youth have the challenge of population development to improve the quality of human resources, health by reducing stunting rates, social security coverage challenges, and others," she explained.

The programs owned by the central and regional governments were good, such as programs to overcome stunting, it is just that there needs to be personal awareness from the community to follow existing programs and support government programs.

"HR must be maintained by improving the quality of health and educated. For instance, the Jakarta Provincial Government is consistently maintaining to reduce stunting cases starting from pre-marital. Then, children are monitored from the womb to birth with various programs, one of which is Posyandu," she explained.

In facing the demographic bonus challenge, he concluded that Indonesia, both the central and regional governments, must focus on two issues, namely labor and education. Regarding manpower, one of the policy directions is to strengthen the competitiveness of the workforce in entering the global labor market.

"For education, the strategy is through increasing access, quality, and relevance of education. Including, developing vocational or vocational education to strengthen innovation capabilities and increase creativity," she continued.

Community Empowerment for IKN Director, Susianah Affandy added, not all countries get demographic bonuses, even demographic bonuses could be obtained for up to 1,000 years.

"The benefits of a high proportion of the population at a young age are expected to have an impact on the economy, health, and human development," she added.

The current generation must prepare themselves carefully in facing challenges and obstacles, as the biggest obstacle is in one's personality.

"One of the challenges faced is the industrial revolution. We are currently entering the fourth industrial revolution, many human jobs have been replaced by at least 20-30 jobs and this is a big and tough challenge," she asserted.

However, young people must continue to be optimistic in exploring their potential and resources, thus they can face these challenges.

"So, keep exploring potential and remain optimistic," she stated.
