Jakarta Contingent Leads Medal Tally in Popnas XVI

Jakarta has successfully led the provisional medal tally at the National Lesson Sports Week (Popnas) XVI in Palembang, South Sumatra, from August 26 - September 4, 2023.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head, Andri Yansyah said as of Wednesday (8/30) at 10.19 PM, Jakarta had won 31 gold, 19 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

"Thank God, based on the medal tally update as of August 30, our contingent is currently in the lead," he expressed, Thursday (8/31).

He said the Jakarta team should not be complacent and quickly become complacent considering that the competition will still last until September 4.

"Sports that have achieved the gold target must be optimistic that it will be increased again. Thus far, the second place is East Java with 26 gold and the third place lies in West Java with 24 gold. We still have to focus, have full concentration, don't be overbearing, and be alert. There are still around 65 percent or two-thirds of the medals up for grabs," he explained.

He appreciated and thanked the athletes, managers, coaches, and officials who have worked together to win dozens of gold medals.

"Use the strategy well and keep the athletes in good condition for the best performance. Try as much as possible to recover athletes who have competed and will compete again," he asserted.

He added Jakarta athletes will compete in 20 final rounds from six sports today. Hopefully, Jakarta athletes could get maximum gold medals.

"Most of the finals that will be contested by Jakarta athletes today are from athletics. We pray for the finals of all sports contested today to win gold medals," he stated.
