Betawi Martial Arts Enliven Spouse Program of ASEAN Summit at TMII

The Betawi Martial Arts attraction performed by some girls in the ASEAN Summit's Spouse Program at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), amazed the First Lady Iriana Jokowi and several other first ladies, Wednesday (9/6).

Hopefully what is presented can raise Jakarta's image as a city with culture and global insight

Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana said the Betawi cultural arts performance ranging from dance, martial arts, and palang pintu (one of the Betawi cultural traditions, which is typically performed during a wedding ceremony) had given a distinct feel of luxury and memories for the delegates attended.

"Hopefully what is presented can raise Jakarta's image as a city with culture and global insight," he expressed, Thursday (9/7).

He went on to say that efforts to preserve traditional arts and increase some activities for performing arts and culture were the main focus of his party at this time.

"The coaching takes place measurably and massively in various places and events," he concluded.

His party involved various parties in this activity, ranging from humanists, cultural arts practitioners, academics, and related community leaders.

Hopefully, empowerment and joint work of all parties could maintain and enhance cultural sustainability in Jakarta.

"One way is to involve many arts and culture studios spread across Jakarta," he stated.
