Seribu Islands Makes Concrete Steps to Eradicate Poverty

The Seribu Islands Regency administration has formed a Poverty Reduction Coordination Team (TKPK) to accelerate poverty reduction. To optimize it, it involves all related regional apparatus organizations (OPD).

This year is a year of acceleration in handling poverty and stunting

Seribu Islands Regency Secretary, Eric PZ Lumbun said the team formation was to find out detailed and precise information regarding the poverty rate in Seribu Islands, including following up on Presidential Instruction No. 4/2022 on the Acceleration of the Elimination of Extreme Poverty.

"This year is a year of acceleration in handling poverty and stunting, thus all OPDs incorporated in TKPK can move quickly to formulate and make effective breakthroughs, thus they can reduce poverty and stunting rates significantly," he expressed, Wednesday (9/27).

He wanted steps to accelerate poverty handling to be right on target and objective. The team was also urged to evaluate the conditions of poverty and vulnerability of impoverished communities in each region.

He went on to say that handling poverty could be done more comprehensively, namely looking at poverty not only in terms of income received per capita. However, there was a need for a comprehensive approach to looking at poverty from the economic, cultural, and geographical location of a region.

"Poverty interventions based on regional characteristics will be able to solve problems on target," he explained.

Jakarta Empowerment of Child Protection and Population Control Sub-agency (PPAPP) Head, Simon Baginda Pardomuan explained that Seribu Islands TKPK is a cross-sector and cross-stakeholder coordination forum for poverty alleviation in Seribu Islands.

"The Seribu Islands TKPK team aims to quickly develop a regional poverty reduction plan and district action plan," he stated.

He added all OPD leaders should coordinate with each other in an incentive manner in their interventions. Aside that, simultaneous efforts must also be made by sub-district and urban village heads who give top priority to dealing with extreme poverty and preventing stunting.

"Synergy between all components of society is also important to decipher and realize targets to support national development," he stated.
