For the safety of bicycler, Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama claimed that he will construct a new bicycle lane step by step.

"We have to finish MRT (mass rapid transit) project first. Besides the double-decker bus, there are also bicycles," told Basuki when welcoming the ambassador of Denmark for Indonesia, Stig Traavik who brought a bicycle to the City Hall, Friday (3/20).

Basuki is quite impressed with the 3 wheeled cart-modeled bicycle that was brought by Klynge the ambassador of Denmark . By wearing a Viking hat, he and Klynge rode the typical bicycle of Denmark around the City Hall's yard.

According to him, the unique bicycle is suitable for mothers who bring their kids to the school, as same as the Danes used to.

"If the street of residence is stuck due to mothers bring her kids to school, perhaps we should use this bicycle, who knows we could be slim," he laughed.

To facilitate the bicyclers, Jakarta Communications Department is reviewing Taman Surapati Lane-City Hall. The 5 kilometers route crosses Jalan Taman Surapati-Jalan Bonjol-Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan. The other routes which are the priority  such as Kelapa Gading-MOI-MKG-Gading Nias. "This year, it just the review, then for project will be conducted next year," expressed Benjamin Bukit, when he served as Vice Head of Communications Department a couple years ago.

So far, the bicycle lanes in the capital had been constructed such as on the East Flood Canal (KBT) since 2012 ago. Then, the other lane extend along Taman Ayodya-West Jakarta Mayor Office.

The other locations that will be built a bicycle lane such as Jalan Salemba Raya, Pasar Jumat, Jalan Pemuda, Ancol and Jalan Benyamin Sueb. Eventually, the lanes were located on right fast way. If it is used by Transjakarta bus, So the bicycle lane would be on the left side.
