The Jakarta Health Agency (Dinkes) encourages the public to take three steps: Detect (early detection), Prevent, and Respond, to prevent the outbreak of monkeypox.

The case fatality rate (CFR) is around one percent

Epidemiology and Immunization Surveillance Section Head, Ngabila Salama expressed a circular on increasing awareness of monkeypox and monkeypox guidelines had been issued following the discovery of active cases of monkeypox.

Early detection for immediate treatment if a case of monkeypox is found. The discovery of active cases was not only in close contact with cases but also symptomatic suspects who came to health facilities and were immediately tested for PCR if they met the suspect/suspected criteria. If PCR was executed, it would be continued with whole genome sequencing (WGS) examination.

"The case fatality rate (CFR) is around one percent. Of 100 positive cases, one can die due to secondary infections and low immunity conditions in risk groups such as MSM, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children, and elderly," she expressed, Tuesday (10/24 ).

The Prevent step is done by administering vaccines to 500 people in risk groups in Jakarta over the next week. One person is given two doses four weeks apart.

"Because currently, the monkeypox vaccine stock in Indonesia is 1,000 doses, for 500 people" she explained.

Another prevention effort is through massive outreach and education to prevent illness in three ways, namely a clean and healthy lifestyle, wearing a mask, and washing hands with running water and soap. Then avoid skin contact and wounds.

He added that every close contact is monitored for symptoms every day by the sub-district health center. If there are symptoms, a laboratory examination is carried out.

"Respond, in anticipation of massively breaking the chain of transmission, every positive case is immediately isolated in hospital even if the case is mild," he added.
