North Jakarta Targeted to Build 60 Waste Banks

Currently, we have 24 waste banks. This year, we target to build 60 waste banks. Each RW also obligated to have it

North Jakarta Administration keeps conducting various ways to handle waste volume in North Jakarta. One of them is by providing and adding waste bank. Even this year, the government targeted to have 60 waste banks in six sub-districts. 

North Jakarta Mayor, Rustam Effendi disclosed the waste bank is very required to handle waste problem in North Jakarta. Moreover, at this time, as many as 100 dump trucks are required to transport waste from the Temporary Waste Disposal Site (TPS) to Bantar Gebang Landfill, Bekasi. 

City Targeting to Have 1,500 Garbage Banks

"We need fund by Rp 60 billion to purchase 100 trucks. Considering one truck spends Rp 600 million. If the waste can be managed well through waste bank, we can save the fund for another development," he said, Monday (3/30). 

To transport waste from Bantar Gerbang, according to Effendi, the city administration spends Rp 1.5 trillion. Therefore, if the waste bank is built, it will decrease waste volume that will be transported to Bantar Gebang.

"Currently, we have 24 waste banks. This year, we target to build 60 waste banks. Each RW also obligated to have it," he disclosed. 

Head of North Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Bondan Diah Ekowati stated those waste banks are Perisai RW 02 Semper Barat, Karya Peduli RW 09 Semper Barat, Bumi Asri RW 03 Rawa Badak Utara, Kenanga RW 04 Semper Barat and Bank Sampah Maju Bersama RW 13 Penjaringan. She admitted, its existence is very useful to handle waste problem in North Jakarta. 

"That's why, we keep encouraging people to build waste bank. All this time, we continue to hold the counseling and guidance to them," she told.
