Seribu Islands Fishermen Must Check Weather Conditions Before Going to Sea

Fishermen and residents living in the Seribu Islands are urged to pay attention to weather conditions before carrying out activities on the coast or ocean.

Check information from BMKG before going to sea

This vigilance needs to be increased due to forecasts of extreme weather from January 3 to 10, 2023, as stated by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Seribu Islands Regent, Junaedi urged fishermen if high waves occur not to force themselves to go to sea.

"It's also important to obtain or check information from BMKG before going to sea. Prioritizing safety is very important," he expressed, Friday (1/5).

He added people who live and do activities around coastal areas where high waves are likely to occur also need to always be alert.

"Stay careful, even though people are used to and understand the weather on the island. Nature is sometimes difficult to predict," he explained.

Seribu Islands Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Sub-agency Acting Head, Rita Sri Lestari expressed outreach in responding to extreme weather had been carried out to fishermen.

"We've conveyed the SOP before carrying out fishing activities. So far, it's still safe and under control, we also continue to remind the local community to always be alert and wise in responding to current weather conditions," she explained.

He added if people experience or discover an emergency, they can immediately report it via JakLapor feature on JAKI application.

"Reports can also be submitted via the Jakarta Siaga 112 call center service which can be accessed 24 hours and is toll-free or free of charge," he stated.
