Do's and Don'ts to Prevent Electricity Short

Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) noted there were 2,286 fire incident along 2023. Of those incidents, mostly were caused by electricity short circuit.
This is the main cause of incident by 1,216 cases
Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Agency Head, Satriadi Gunawan, said 55.19 percent of fire incident in Jakarta were caused by electricity short circuit.
"This is the main cause of incident by 1,216 cases," he said, Tuesday (1/8).

Moreover, resident is also appealed to do routine maintenance.
As quoted from agency's website, here are advises and anticipation to prevent electricity shorting;
- Turn off the lamp and plug out the cable when you are done.
- Put light extinguisher in the house.
- Do not pile up the cable plug.
- Keep flammable objects away from electrical installations.
- Do not replace main circuit breaker fuses without permission.
- Routinely check the cable, panel, and so on.
- Routinely maintain the electricity installation.
Electricity short-circuit are mostly caused by;
- Not using SNI electricity equipment
- Pilling up the electricity usage in one terminal
- Using illegal electricity causes high current
- Electricity installation is not listed as AKLI member
- Connect broken fuses with wire. Fuse has different load standard
- Blocking dropped the Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)
- Socket/cable is accidentally exposed to water (roof leak, splashed with water or flood)
- Using cable that do not match with the current
If the short-circuit electricity happens, please do this;
- Turn off the electricity
- Sound the emergency alert (if any)
- Please contact Jakarta Siaga 112 and PLN at 123
- Extinguish the fire by using dry chemical or CO2. Do not extinguish fire with foam
- Please leave the building if the fire can not be handled
